Joe O’Sullivan

Professor Joe O’Sullivan is a Clinical Professor at Queen’s University Belfast, affiliated with the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences and the Patrick G Johnston Centre for Cancer Research. He specializes in prostate cancer research and molecular radiotherapy, leading over 30 clinical trials and establishing Belfast as a Centre of Excellence in prostate cancer treatment. His work focuses on improving patient outcomes through radiation oncology innovations like IMRT and IGRT, and he co-directs the Movember-funded FASTMAN programme.

Research interests include bone-seeking radionuclide therapy, image-guided radiotherapy, and translational research in prostate cancer. He has held leadership roles such as Clinical Director of Oncology at Belfast Trust and trustee of the Friends of the Cancer Centre.

Key awards include the 2015 Irish Annual Update Meeting Best Presentation and the 2018 Vice Chancellor’s Research Culture Award. His research has been featured in high-impact journals like European Urology and British Journal of Cancer.

Professor O’Sullivan collaborates internationally and teaches the 4th-year medical oncology module. His team operates an NHS-embedded academic prostate cancer service, supporting thousands of patients through clinical trials.
