Joe Mymryk

Joe Mymryk is a Professor at The University of Western Ontario, with affiliations in the Departments of Microbiology & Immunology, Otolaryngology, and Oncology. He holds the title of Distinguished Scientist at the London Regional Cancer Program and the Lawson Health Research Institute. His research focuses on mechanisms linking DNA tumor viruses (e.g., adenovirus, HPV, EBV) to human cancers, particularly viral protein interactions and their roles in cellular reprogramming. Mymryk’s work bridges virology, cancer biology, and molecular biology, with collaborations in clinical oncology and immunology. His lab investigates viral-host interactions, nuclear transport, and epigenetic regulation in cancer progression. Recent studies emphasize metabolic pathways in cancer, drug resistance mechanisms, and immune microenvironment profiling in HPV+/- tumors. He leads the Canadian Airways Research (CARE) group, advancing precision medicine approaches for head and neck cancers. His research has produced over 150 peer-reviewed articles, with active grants exploring therapeutic targets for anaplastic thyroid cancer and EBV-associated malignancies.
