Joe Garman

Joe Garman is an Assistant Professor at Georgetown University since 2010, teaching physiology, pathophysiology, chemistry, and physics for nursing and pre-med students. Previously, he served as an Instructor at Georgetown from 2006 to 2010.

He co-founded Georgetown's neural networking group for Computer Science and Linguistics departments and is developing specialized neural net coursework.

Professional achievements include patents for "Method for Word Spotting in Continuous Speech" (5,425,129), a pending patent for "Intelligent Medical Hypertext Information Translator" (2017/0365183), and a provisional patent for "Method and System for Parametric Speech Synthesis" (62/686,838).

Industry experience spans co-founding Vocentric Corporation (2000-2003) as Chief Scientist for speech processing systems, leading speech technology development at Conversay Corporation (1997-2000) including Samsung's wristwatch cell phone implementation, and 12 years as Senior Programmer at IBM (1984-1996) developing speech recognition engines and expert systems.
