Joe Bucciero is a Postgraduate Research Associate in Princeton University's Department of Art & Archaeology. He recently defended his dissertation titled New Objectives: Possibilities for Painting in 1920s Germany. His research explores avant-garde art movements and modernist practices in interwar Germany.
- PhD conferred in 2024
His work focuses on re-evaluating the material and conceptual frameworks of painting during this period, engaging with under-examined archives from Berlin institutions. His writing appears in prominent outlets like The New York Review of Books, The Nation, and 21: Inquiries into Art, History, and the Visual.
Recipient of research support from DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin—Preußischer Kulturbesitz. Participates in the new A&A Mentorship Program.
