Joe Blythe is an Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics at Macquarie University. He specializes in Interactional Linguistics with a focus on Australian Indigenous languages such as Murrinhpatha, Gija, and Jaru. As co-leader of the Macquarie Linguistics Conversation Analysis Lab, he explores the interplay between linguistic structure and social action, emphasizing how conversational dynamics shape language evolution. Current projects include the ARC-funded CIARA (investigating Aboriginal conversational norms) and OzSpace (examining spatial language and cognition in Indigenous communities).
