Jody Parkins

Jody Parkins is a Lecturer at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she teaches academically themed English as a Second Language (ESL) courses for adult students ranging from beginner to advanced proficiency levels. Her career began as an Assistant Language Teacher in Tokyo, Japan, followed by graduate studies in Applied Linguistics at Georgia State University, culminating in a Master’s degree in 2013.

Jody specializes in communicative language teaching (CLT) and student-centered learning approaches. Her bi-cultural upbringing in Kingston, Jamaica, and Atlanta, Georgia, fuels her engagement in intercultural exchange initiatives, both domestically and internationally. She actively contributes to community projects such as the One Project, Literacy Volunteers of Atlanta, and Welcoming Atlanta through volunteer work.

In her personal time, Jody explores Atlanta’s culinary scene via car, bike, or train, maintains a garden, and blogs about her experiences. Her dedication to education and cross-cultural collaboration reflects her professional and personal ethos.
