Jodi Melamed is Professor of English and Race, Ethnic, and Indigenous Studies at Marquette University and currently serves as Norman Freehling Professor at the University of Michigan's Institute for the Humanities. Her scholarship examines racial capitalism's intersections with state power and liberation movements through frameworks of critical race theory, indigenous studies, and abolitionist feminisms.
Research Focus: Dr. Melamed's work analyzes how racial capitalism operates through legal and political systems, with particular attention to colonial legacies, policing practices, and resistance movements. Her current book project investigates liberalism's role in maintaining racial capitalist structures while exploring transformative alternatives from Black, Indigenous, and migrant communities.
