Prof. Dr. Dr. Jochen Sautermeister is a Professor and Director of the Seminar of Moral Theology at the University of Bonn, Germany, within the Faculty of Catholic Theology and Department of Moral Theology. He holds a dual PhD in Theology (University of Munich, 2013) and Social Sciences (University of Tübingen, 2006), alongside certifications in counseling and pastoral psychology.
His research focuses on theological ethics, moral psychology, bioethics (including xenotransplantation and end-of-life issues), sexual ethics, and resilience. He has authored/edited 4 books, 14 volumes, and over 100 articles. He leads the subproject Z1 on ethical and psychological issues in xenotransplantation within the DFG-funded CRC-TR 127 collaborative research center.
Prof. Sautermeister is affiliated with numerous academic organizations, including the German Association of Pastoral Psychology, the International Xenotransplantation Association, and the Central Ethics Committee for Stem Cell Research. He also chairs editorial boards for journals like Forum Interdisziplinäre Ethik and Ethik und Empirie.
Key research grants include DFG funding for resilience in religion and ethics of xenotransplantation. His advisory work includes supervision of Master’s and PhD theses, with a focus on interdisciplinary ethical frameworks.
