Prof. Jochen Mierau is a Professor of Public Health Economics at the University of Groningen, affiliated with the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health. He serves as Scientific Director of Lifelines, a large population-based biobank and cohort study in the Netherlands. His research focuses on health inequalities, socioeconomic determinants of health, and public health policy. Mierau co-founded the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health in 2016 and has advised governmental bodies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
He holds a Ph.D. in Economics and has extensive expertise in epidemiology, healthcare systems, and health economics. His work integrates quantitative methods to analyze how socioeconomic factors influence health outcomes, disease prevalence, and healthcare costs.
