معرفی
Prof. Meyer serves as Full Professor of Behavioral Genetics at the University of Trier since 2002, heading the Department of Neurobehavioral Genetics within the Institute of Psychobiology. His research integrates molecular genetics with behavioral analysis to investigate psychiatric disorders and stress mechanisms.
Education:
- 1983-1989: Diploma in Biology, University of Ulm
- 1989: Diploma thesis at University of Ulm's Department of Medical Genetics on Myc locus gene mapping
- 1993: Dr. rer. nat. in Zoology (magna cum laude), University of Tuebingen, specializing in anti-HIV-1 gene therapy and ciliate molecular biology
- 1993-1996: Postdoctoral fellow at University of Freiburg's Department of Human Genetics, focusing on sex determination and Campomelic Dysplasia
- 1996-2002: Postdoctoral fellow at University of Wuerzburg's Clinic of Psychiatry, studying monogenic inheritance in psychiatric traits
His research spans psychiatric genetics, ADHD, stress response pathways, epigenetic modifications, and rare syndromes including Triple-X and Primary Hyperhidrosis. Current work emphasizes neuroeconomic decision-making frameworks and functional characterization of pathogenic gene variants through interdisciplinary approaches combining molecular biology with behavioral phenotyping.
Awards:
- 1995: German Society of Human Genetics Award (with Thomas Wagner and Jutta Wirth) for identifying SOX9 as the causative gene for Campomelic Dysplasia
Prof. Meyer directs the Neurobehavioral Genetics department within Trier's Research Institute for Psychobiology (Johanniterufer 15, Room 1.180). He has secured significant funding including DFG support for the International Research Training Group 'Psychoendocrinology of Stress' (2005-2011) and currently leads the university's 'Psychobiology of Stress' research focus established in 2012. His laboratory investigates gene-environment interactions in stress-related disorders through collaborative clinical and molecular studies.
