Joaquin Recaño Valverde

Joaquin Recaño Valverde holds the position of Investigador asociado at the Centre for Demographical Studies since April 2007, and previously served as Profesor asociado at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2003–2007). He obtained a Ph.D. in Geography and History from Universitat de Barcelona (UB) in 1995, specializing in Andalusian migration in Spain. His research focuses on migration patterns, urbanization, and demographic dynamics, with a particular emphasis on Spain and Southern Europe.

Research Interests: Internal migration, rural-urban dynamics, pandemic impacts on demographics, sociodemographic factors in public health, and historical demography in Catalonia and Spain. His work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals related to sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11) and reduced inequalities (SDG 10).

Recent Projects (2021–2025): Leading the project EL IMPACTO DE LA COVID-19 EN LOS PROCESOS MIGRATORIOS, analyzing migration and residential changes during the pandemic. Other projects include studies on urban migrants, geographic mobility, and rural depopulation.

Labs/Teams: Active within the Centre for Demographical Studies, collaborating on cross-national demographic research and policy development.
