Joanne Costello is a Professor at the Zvart Onanian School of Nursing at Rhode Island College. Her work focuses on public health, health policy, and health equity, with emphasis on chronic disease management, HIV/AIDS, and overdose prevention.
- Education: B.S.N. (1981) from Saint Anselm College, M.P.H. (1986) from Tulane University, M.N. (1987) from Louisiana State University, and Ph.D. (2007) from the University of Rhode Island.
Dr. Costello’s research spans nurse-led HIV testing initiatives, public understanding of venous thromboembolism, diabetes support group dynamics, and policy engagement in nursing education. She has pioneered innovative approaches to integrating public policy learning into nursing curricula.
Her teaching includes courses such as Public & Community Health Nursing, Population Health Nursing, and Global Health Experience: Haiti, reflecting her commitment to community health and international healthcare challenges.
Dr. Costello serves on the Board of Directors for the Haitian Humanitarian Network and the Board of Trustees for the Nursing Foundation of Rhode Island, demonstrating her leadership in healthcare advocacy and education.
