Joanne Bouma is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing & Midwifery at Mount Royal University, part of the Health, Community & Education faculty. She holds an MN from the University of Calgary, a BN from the University of Lethbridge, and an RN from Foothills Hospital of Nursing.

Research & Teaching Focus: Joanne specializes in supportive learning environments for nursing students, particularly in Medical/Surgical Nursing, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and Clinical Coordination. Her scholarship emphasizes strategies to help struggling students, the use of concept mapping, and cross-disciplinary teaching approaches. She has presented at conferences such as the Western Northern Regional Canadian Schools of Nursing (WNRCASN) and the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISOTL).
Advising & Clinical Practice: She supports NCLEX repeat writers and maintains active clinical practice as an ICU nurse. Her work bridges classroom and clinical settings, prioritizing hands-on learning and student success.
