Joanne Benham Rennick serves as an Associate Professor in the Department of Global Studies within the Faculty of Arts at Wilfrid Laurier University, bringing nearly three decades of experience in education, skills-training, research, strategic planning, and program development across Laurier and the University of Waterloo, with appointments spanning the Brantford Campus, Faculty of Arts, and Lazaridis School of Business & Economics.
Her interdisciplinary research centers on social innovation, entrepreneurship, transformative learning, and Canadian military studies, having shaped new perspectives through leadership in Laurier's successful bid to become an Ashoka U Changemaker Campus. As Director of Social Innovation & Entrepreneurship and Executive Director of the Schlegel Centre for Entrepreneurship, she developed comprehensive curricular and co-curricular programming that garnered media recognition for initiatives like the Community Innovation Hub and CityStudio projects.
Prior to academia, she worked a decade in IT as a project manager, consultant, and business owner, while also teaching foreign languages (French, Scots, Spanish), information technology, and English as a Second Language. She currently consults for SMEs on enhancing social and environmental impact, maintaining active community engagement through neighborhood change projects and strategic partnerships.
