Joanna Scott is the Roswell Smith Burrows Professor of English and Director of Literary Arts Programs at the University of Rochester's Department of English within the School of Arts & Sciences. She holds an MA from Brown University and is affiliated with 404C Morey Hall.
Her research focuses on modern and contemporary fiction, narrative form, voice idiosyncrasies, and imaginative writing techniques. She explores themes like temporal ambiguity, beauty/ugliness dynamics, and the interplay between comedy and collapse in literary works.
Selected publications include De Potter’s Grand Tour (2014), Follow Me (2009), and Everybody Loves Somebody (2006). Her writing blends experimental narrative structures with deep explorations of human psychology and societal norms.

She has received honorary degrees and has been a commencement speaker at Trinity College (2009).
