Dr. Joanna Pye is a Senior Lecturer in Social Work at Swansea University's School of Health and Social Care. With over 20 years of experience, she specializes in child welfare, having worked as a field social worker and co-founder/manager of a residential childcare facility. Her expertise focuses on promoting positive outcomes for looked-after children, care leavers, and supervised birth family contact.
Teaching encompasses undergraduate and postgraduate modules in essential social work issues, therapeutic child work, research methods, and theoretical perspectives. Key areas include child protection, the Integrated Children's System, and youth justice policies. She supervises PhD research on unaccompanied refugee children in Wales.
Her research emphasizes practical interventions in social work, particularly improving care transition experiences and family contact protocols. Current work explores systemic challenges in supporting vulnerable youth through interdisciplinary approaches.
