Joanna Leake is a Professor of English at the University of New Orleans specializing in Fiction and Screenwriting, having served as Director of the Creative Writing Workshop during 1992-2001 and 2003-2009.

Professor Leake's creative scholarship centers on Fiction and Screenwriting, evidenced by her novel A Few Days in Weasel Creek (adapted into a CBS movie-of-the-week), commissioned screenplays for Rainbow Productions, Twentieth Century Fox, and Warner Brothers, and short fiction in journals including Intro, Cultural Vistas, and Xavier Review. She co-authored textbooks The Illustrated Guide to Writing and The Illustrated Guide to College Composition with James Knudsen.
She held leadership roles as past President of the Gulf Coast Association of Creative Writing Teachers, associate editor of Short Story, and editor of Bayou, while co-hosting a film review program on NPR affiliate WWNO for ten years.
