Professor Joanna Collingwood is a faculty member in the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick, holding the rank of Professor in the Systems and Information stream. She serves as the Associate Head of Department (People) and Head of the Trace Metals in Medicine Laboratory. Her research focuses on imaging and quantifying trace metals in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Multiple System Atrophy, utilizing advanced techniques like synchrotron X-ray spectromicroscopy and MRI. She has held prestigious fellowships from the Alzheimer's Society, Dunhill Medical Trust, EPSRC, and RCUK. Collingwood has supervised numerous PhD students, including current advisees Natalia Arigundiya and Yunxing Ma, and former students who have secured academic and professional roles post-graduation. She is actively involved in administrative roles, including chairing the Diamond Light Source peer review panels and leading equality initiatives such as the Women in Engineering Scholarships Scheme. Her lab's work has been recognized through awards like the ISMRM Trainee Beautiful Image competition. Collaborations include international facilities like the Argonne National Laboratories and the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility.
