Dr hab. Joanna Chwaszcz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Psychoprevention at the Institute of Psychology, John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. She holds a Doctorate in Humanities (Psychology) and specializes in social psychoprevention, focusing on improving quality of life, preventing developmental threats like addictions, and addressing social exclusion. Her research also examines trauma outcomes among conflict-affected populations and the psychological impact of pandemics.
- Education:
- M.A. in Psychology at KUL (2000), with a thesis on 'Psychosocial Determinants of Men’s Perception of Pornography.'
- PhD in Psychology at KUL (2005), with a thesis on 'Personality and Social Determinants of Homeless Men’s Functioning.'
- Key Research Interests: Social exclusion mechanisms, addiction prevention, psychosocial determinants of behavior, and crisis management (e.g., pandemic effects).
- Social Engagement: Member of the Committee on Combating Homelessness at the Office of the Ombudsman, President of the Natanaelum Association, and Coordinator of Psychology Student Volunteering at KUL.
Her recent work includes studies on problematic internet use across cultures, dental anxiety’s role in social media misuse, and psychological coping strategies during the pandemic. She has authored/co-authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles and books, including monographs on youth quality of life during the pandemic and psychosocial resource measurement tools.
