Dr Joanna Badach is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Urban Architecture and Waterscapes, Faculty of Architecture, Gdańsk University of Technology. Her research focuses on urban sustainability, air quality management, and climate change mitigation. She leads projects such as DigiClimAct (funded by South Baltic Program), ElemenTREE (Driving Urban Transitions Partnership), and Gdańsk Digi-City (Student Scientific Clubs). Her work integrates environmental modeling, GIS tools, and data-driven approaches to address urban challenges like urban heat islands and pollution dispersion.
Key research interests include urban ventilation systems, blue-green infrastructure, and policy frameworks for sustainable urban development. She has conducted comparative studies in Gdańsk, Antwerp, Oslo, and other cities to analyze institutional and grassroots actions for air quality improvement. Her projects often involve collaboration with international partners and focus on digital twins, urban tree canopy management, and spatial planning solutions.
Dr Badach’s publications emphasize the role of micro-scale urban form in pollution control and the potential of green roofs and waterfront landscapes. She actively engages in student mentorship through academic exhibitions and project-based learning. Current initiatives include developing planning support systems for air quality and advancing participatory mechanisms in urban governance.
