Joana Francesca Ferragut Simonet

Dr. Joana Francesca Ferragut Simonet is a Professor of Genetics at the Faculty of Sciences, University of the Balearic Islands. Since February 2024, she serves as Vice Dean of the Faculty and Head of Studies for the Biology Degree. Her academic career includes roles as a PhD Assistant (2018–2022), Associate Professor (2022–2024), and now Full Professor. She holds a PhD in Biotechnology, Genetics, and Cell Biology, focusing on Evolutionary Genetics in Human Populations, particularly the genetic legacy of Sephardic Jews.

• Master's degrees in Biotechnology, Genetics, and Cell Biology, and Teacher Training from UIB

Her research spans Population Genetics, Conservation Genetics, and Molecular Anthropology, with participation in projects analyzing genetic lineages in human populations and diverse species. She is affiliated with the consolidated R&D groups Biodiversidad Balear (GBB) and Genética Humana y Evolutiva (HEGEN) as a member.

Teaching contributions include courses such as Physiology and Genetics of Plant-Microorganism Interactions, Genetics, Applied Genetics, and Molecular Anthropology and Forensic Genetics, primarily at the undergraduate and master's levels in Biology and Biomedicine programs.
