معرفی
Joan McLean is a Research Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Utah State University, with a dual affiliation at the Utah Water Research Laboratory (UWRL). She also serves as the manager of the Environmental Quality Laboratory at UWRL, where she leads interdisciplinary research in environmental chemistry and contaminant fate.
Educational Background:
- MS, Soil Chemistry, University of California, Davis (1978)
- BS, Chemistry, University of San Francisco (1975)
Research Focus:
Her research program integrates biogeochemical processes in natural and engineered systems, with a focus on pollutant behavior in soil and water environments. Key areas include:
- Arsenic bioremediation and microbial controls in groundwater
- Nanoparticle interactions with plants and microbes (Ag, CuO, ZnO)
- PFAS and pharmaceutical fate in reclaimed wastewater irrigation
- Stormwater treatment systems and nutrient cycling
Teaching and Mentorship:
She teaches Environmental Quality Analysis, Environmental Chemistry of Inorganic Contaminants, and Environmental Engineering Sophomore Seminar. She has mentored over 25 PhD and Master's students in civil and environmental engineering.
Laboratory Leadership:
As manager of the Environmental Quality Laboratory, she oversees advanced analytical capabilities for trace contaminant analysis, supporting both research and external collaborations.
