Joan Licata is a Senior Lecturer in the Mathematical Sciences Institute at The Australian National University (ANU). Her research focuses on low-dimensional topology and contact geometry, including Heegaard Floer theory, symplectic field theory, knot theory, and 3-manifolds. She earned her PhD in Mathematics from Yale University in 2007.
Her research interests span manifold structures, contact structures, and topological invariants. She has contributed to studies on Heegaard splittings, Giroux correspondence, and bordered Floer homology. Collaborations include work on Morse foliated open books and contact lens spaces.
Dr. Licata is actively involved in supervising research students and has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals such as Discrete and Computational Geometry, Algebraic and Geometric Topology, and Journal of Symplectic Geometry.
