Joan-Josep Climent

Joan-Josep Climent is a Full Professor at the University of Alicante, affiliated with the Department of Mathematics (formerly part of the Faculty of Sciences). He holds a Bachelor in Mathematics from the Universitat de València and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the Universitat Politècnica de València. His academic career includes roles as Professor in multiple departments since 1983, notably in Applied Mathematics (1983–1991), Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (1991–2009), and Mathematics (2009–present). He served as Department Director from 2014 to 2022.

His research focuses on cryptography, code theory, and convolutional codes, with contributions to Boolean functions, linear algebra, and parallel computing. He has advised 10 PhD students, including notable researchers like Carmen Perea, Leandro Tortosa, and Verónica Requena. His work includes breakthroughs in secure cryptosystems, MDS codes, and orbit codes.

Climent has held visiting positions at institutions such as the University of Connecticut, University of Minnesota, and Universität Zürich. He contributed to editorial boards, including Advances in Mathematics of Communications (2008–2018), and is a member of CriptoRed, ALAMA, and MatSI. He delivered a Masterclass at the 2018 Faculty of Science graduation and a Laudatio for Joachim Rosenthal's honorary doctorate (2025).

His research outputs span over 50 publications, with recent works addressing convolutional code representations, pseudorandom sequences, and algebraic coding structures. His interdisciplinary work bridges linear algebra, cryptography, and control systems, emphasizing practical applications in secure communication and error correction.
