Joachim Wosnitza

Prof. Dr. Joachim Wosnitza is a full Professor at Technische Universität Dresden and serves as the Director of the Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory (HLD) at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR), a leading research institution in Germany. His work bridges academic and large-scale research infrastructure, focusing on cutting-edge experimental physics under extreme conditions.

His research interests lie at the intersection of condensed matter physics and high-field magnetism. He specializes in low-temperature physics, quantum materials, and electronic correlations, utilizing high magnetic fields to probe quantum phenomena. His leadership at the HLD places him at the forefront of experimental techniques in magnetism and quantum transport.

Prof. Wosnitza has held numerous academic and advisory roles, including membership in the DFG Review Board 307 for Condensed Matter Physics (2004–2012, Chair 2010–2012), Dean of Student Affairs at TU Dresden (2003–2005), and Advisory Professor at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China (2007–2015). Since 2008, he has chaired the Scientific and Technical Council at HZDR, demonstrating sustained institutional leadership.

He is currently a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Center for Electronic Correlations and Magnetism at Augsburg University, reflecting ongoing engagement with national and international research communities.

His academic training includes a Diploma in Physics from RWTH Aachen (1985), a PhD from Universität Karlsruhe (TH) in 1988, and habilitation in Experimental Physics there in 1995. He was a postdoctoral researcher at Argonne National Laboratory, USA (1990–1991), and served as a Scientific Assistant at Universität Karlsruhe from 1993 to 1999.

He has been actively involved in research leadership and peer review, including service on the Selection Committee for the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize of the DFG (2015–2021). His laboratory, the HLD, is a major user facility providing high magnetic field environments for national and international researchers.
