Joachim Kunert is a Professor Emeritus of Mathematical Statistics and Scientific Applications at the Faculty of Statistics, Technical University of Dortmund. His career spans over three decades, contributing significantly to statistical methodology, particularly in experimental design and sensory analysis.
- Education: Diploma in Statistics (1981), PhD (1982) from University of Dortmund; Habilitation in Mathematical Statistics (1988) from University of Trier.
- Employment: Heisenberg Fellow (1989–1993), Professor at TU Dortmund (1993–2021).
Research focuses on optimal experimental design, crossover studies, statistical modeling in biostatistics and sensory science, and applications in quality engineering. He led major projects like the Collaborative Research Center (SFB 823) on nonlinear dynamic processes and TRR 30 on functionally graded structures. His work integrates statistical theory with industrial collaborations (e.g., Procter & Gamble, Danone).
Awards: Heisenberg Fellowship (1989–1993) from the German Research Foundation (DFG).
Advising: Supervised over 20 PhD students, including Sarah Urbanik, Johanna Mielke, and Christoph Neumann. Active in scientific societies like DIN’s Sensory Science Working Committee and ENBIS.
Grants: Overseeing numerous funded projects, including the Research Training Group “Statistical Modeling” (DFG-funded, 2004–2013).
Labs/Teams: Collaborated with interdisciplinary teams on topics like incremental forming processes and biostatistical studies.
