JoAnn D'Alisera is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Arkansas, College of Arts & Sciences. Her work focuses on Sierra Leonean Muslim communities in America, examining spatial practices, religious identity, and transnational connections.

Research Interests: Specializing in cultural anthropology, Dr. D'Alisera explores intersections of religion, material culture, and urban identity within African diaspora communities. Her ongoing manuscript City Space and the Poetics of Pious Enactment investigates how Sierra Leonean Muslims reshape urban spaces through religious practices.
Publications: Her 2018 article in Ethnography examines dress practices as negotiation tools, while 2001's Journal of Material Culture piece analyzes religious commodification in diaspora contexts. Recent scholarship focuses on spatial politics and cultural memory.
