Jo Stenehjem is a part-time Senior Researcher at the Department of Biostatistics, University of Oslo, and holds a Senior Researcher position at the Cancer Registry of Norway, leading a research group focused on cancer risk among offshore workers. He earned his BSc and MSc in exercise physiology and epidemiology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and the University of Verona, followed by a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Oslo (2014).
His academic interests span epidemiological study design, occupational epidemiology, trauma epidemiology, and cancer survivorship. He has contributed extensively to understanding modifiable risk factors, particularly in industrial and offshore work environments. Key projects include the Norwegian Offshore Petroleum Workers (NOPW) cohort, investigating benzene exposure, night shift work, and occupational hazards linked to cancer and other health outcomes.
Stenehjem’s research also addresses public health topics like substance use in trauma patients, epilepsy post-traumatic brain injury, and biomarkers for chronic alcohol use. His work integrates epidemiological methods with clinical and environmental data to inform occupational safety and preventive strategies.
He collaborates on national initiatives like the Injury Prevention and Outcomes following Trauma (IPOT) project, aiming to improve trauma care through registry-based studies. His interdisciplinary approach bridges biostatistics, occupational health, and clinical medicine to address complex health challenges in high-risk populations.
