Jo Osborn is an Assistant Professor specializing in archaeology with a focus on environmental archaeology, historical ecology, and zooarchaeology. They hold a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Michigan (2022) and an AB in Anthropology from Harvard University (2012). Current research projects include investigating maritime subsistence practices and El Niño resilience on the Andean coast, seabird guano fertilization in prehispanic Andes, and zooarchaeological analysis for the PaleoAndes project led by Kurt Rademaker.
Research interests encompass zooarchaeology, Bayesian modeling applications in archaeology, Andean ethnohistory, and the analysis of prehistoric subsistence strategies. They teach courses such as ANTH 204 (The Prehistoric World) and ANTH 625 (Zooarchaeology).
Publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to understanding ancient human-environment interactions, including rock art interpretation in the Colombian Amazon and chronological analyses of Andean cultural transitions.
