Professor Jo Atlee of the Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo is a renowned software engineering researcher and educator. Her 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award in Computer Science honors decades of contributions to software quality, curriculum reform, and gender equity advocacy.
Education & Leadership:
- Founding director of Canada's first joint software engineering program between Computer Science and Computer Engineering departments
- Co-developer of the 2004 ACM/IEEE Computing Curricula guidelines for Software Engineering
- Co-author of the globally used textbook Software Engineering: Theory and Practice
Research Focus: Pioneering work in automated software requirements analysis, mathematical modeling of software behavior, and detection of feature interactions in complex systems. Her methodologies have been applied to telecommunications, automotive systems, and IoT architectures.
