Dr. Jiyoung Daniel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Modern Languages at the University of North Georgia (UNG). She earned her B.A. (2000) and Ph.D. (2009) in Linguistics from the University of Georgia. As a founding member of UNG's East Asian Studies initiative, she leads the Korean Language Program and oversees the Summer Language Institute. Her teaching spans all levels of Korean language instruction, complemented by advising students in the Sogang University exchange program.
Dr. Daniel's research focuses on language contact phenomena in digital contexts, particularly English influence on Korean online communication and innovative pedagogical applications of technology. Her work bridges sociolinguistics, digital discourse analysis, and second language acquisition theory. She actively incorporates digital tools into teaching, informed by her studies of net-lingo and language variation.
Notable awards include the UNG Teaching Excellence Award (2015) and multiple grants for professional development, including workshops on Korean literature and technology-based instruction. Her service includes roles in curriculum development for KFL programs aligned with national standards.
