Jiqun Liu is an Associate Professor in Data Science at the School of Library and Information Studies, University of Oklahoma, with affiliations in Psychology and the Data Institute for Societal Challenges. His research bridges Large Language Models (LLM), Interactive Information Retrieval (IIR), and Cognitive Psychology through a behavioral economics lens.
- PhD in Information Science, Rutgers University—New Brunswick
Research Focus: Liu's work examines how boundedly rational users interact with information systems, emphasizing proactive fair recommendation, intelligent nudging, and cognitive impacts of generative AI. He investigates bias-aware user modeling, ethical AI, and FATE (fairness, accountability, transparency, ethics) in critical domains like healthcare and education.
Recent Article Trends: His publications analyze decoy effects in search, LLM bias mitigation, older adults' algorithm literacy, and two-sided fairness in search systems. Themes include behavioral economics, explainable AI, and adaptive information systems.
Scientific Awards:
- Elfreda A. Chatman Research Award (2024)
- SIGIR2023 Best Information Behavior Paper Award
- Vannevar Bush Best Paper Nominee (2022)
- ASIS&T2022 SIG USE Best Poster Award
Grants & Collaborations: Funded by NSF, Microsoft, and OU initiatives, Liu explores AI literacy, cognitive bias detection, and fair search frameworks. He leads the Human-Computer Interaction and Recommendation (HCIR) Lab, mentoring students in LLM design, IR evaluation, and ethical AI development.
