Professor Jingyuan Yang-Fu is a distinguished faculty member at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Medical Sciences/UMCG, where she leads research at the Groningen Institute for Gastro Intestinal Genetics and Immunology (3GI). Her work significantly contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through groundbreaking research on gut microbiome and human health interactions. With over 211 research outputs and 81 professional activities, she has established herself as a leading expert in gastrointestinal immunology and microbial genetics.
Yang-Fu's research interests focus on gut microbiome dynamics, host-microbe interactions, and their implications for human health. Her work spans multiple disciplines including microbial genetics, immunology, metabolomics, and population health. She investigates how gut microbiome profiles influence metabolic health across the lifespan, the role of microbial genetic diversity in disease states, and the mechanisms underlying inflammatory bowel diseases. Her research has revealed important connections between blood type, gut microbes, and health outcomes, as well as strain-level variations in microbiome composition related to conditions like coeliac disease.
Her recent publications demonstrate significant trends in analyzing microbial genetic structure at unprecedented resolution, examining longitudinal development of gut ecosystems from infancy, and exploring the relationship between geographic location and host health. Yang-Fu's work increasingly focuses on translating microbiome research into personalized medicine applications and understanding the microbiome's role in healthy ageing.
