Jingqi Fu

Jingqi Fu is a Professor of Chinese at St. Mary's College of Maryland, currently on sabbatical (August 1, 2023 to August 1, 2024), affiliated with the International Languages and Cultures Department.

Education:

Research Interests: Professor Fu specializes in Chinese and Bai syntax, syntax-morphology interface, typology, and language documentation. Her recent work centers on Bai dialect grammar through fieldwork in Yunnan, with strong emphasis on preserving Bai dialects and culture. She contributes significantly to minority language studies in China, publishing in journals like Journal of Natural Language and Linguistic Theory and Les Cahiers de Linguistique Asie Orientale.

Program Leadership: She directs the Chinese Program and St. Mary’s-Fudan Exchange Program, teaching all levels of Chinese language, courses on China's ethnic minorities, study tours in China, and introductory linguistics. She also serves as a Research Associate at the Centre de Recherches Linguistiques sur Asie-Orientale (CNRS-l’EHESS).
