Jing Yu

Jing Yu is an Assistant Professor of International Higher Education in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2022), and master’s degrees from UCSB and Ohio State University. Her research focuses on race, racism, and the experiences of Chinese international students, particularly in relation to transnational identity formation, equity in higher education, and the impact of global crises like the pandemic. She also engages with student affairs organizations to support international student populations.

Her work critically examines how international students navigate racialized environments, geopolitical tensions, and pandemic-related challenges. Notable themes include transnational racial learning, neo-racism in academic settings, and the disjuncture between home-country ideologies and host-country realities. Yu’s publications challenge Western-centric frameworks in education research, advocating for decolonial methodologies.

Her recent articles explore topics such as Chinese students’ perceptions of U.S. racial justice movements, the disruption of study-abroad experiences during lockdowns, and the evolving geographies of international student mobility. Yu’s scholarship emphasizes the intersection of race, class, and nationality, offering critical insights into global educational inequities.
