Jing Wang is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy, Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University. She serves as Module 1 Director for the P30 Vision Research Core at the James and Jean Culver Vision Discovery Institute. Her research focuses on retinal neurovascular biology, particularly the mechanisms of immune-neuron-vascular interactions in disorders like retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). She investigates Sigma 1 receptor (Sig1R) and its role in retinal vascular development and neuroprotection.
- Education:
- PhD: China Agricultural University, Beijing, China, 2004
- Post-doc: Retinal Biology, Augusta University, 2013-2015
- Post-doc: Molecular Biology, Peking University, 2004-2006
Her research targets novel strategies to create favorable retinal environments for vascular repair and revascularization. Current projects explore Sig1R's role in modulating NRF2 signaling for retinal protection, with translational potential for ROP therapies.
She has secured NIH/NEI R01 funding (2023-2028) as Principal Investigator for Sigma 1 receptor-based ROP therapy and collaborates on a P30 Center Core Grant (2020-2025) as Module 1 Director.
