Jing Hu is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Utah State University (USU). Her research focuses on bioinformatics and computational biology, developing machine learning techniques to address challenges in understanding biological systems. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Utah State University (2009) and a B.S. in Computer Science from Xidian University (1999).
Research Interests: Her work emphasizes computational methods for protein function prediction, SNP analysis, drug repositioning, and multi-disciplinary approaches combining computer science with biochemistry. Her current projects include predicting protein functional sites, identifying deleterious genetic variants, and developing bioinformatics tools like SIFT Indel.
Grants & Contributions: Principal Investigator on three industry grants from GlaxoSmithKline totaling $178,304, focusing on computational drug repositioning (2012–2015). Her research has led to web tools such as the SIFT server and methods like BS-KNN for subcellular localization prediction.
