Dr. Jinette Comeau is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at King’s University College at Western University and holds an Adjunct Assistant Professor position at Western University’s Department of Sociology. She is also an Associate Scientist at the Children’s Health Research Institute (CHRI) within the Lawson Health Research Institute. Her research focuses on reducing mental health inequities among disadvantaged children, emphasizing social stress theory and longitudinal methodologies to study child development, intergenerational disparities, and policy interventions.
Dr. Comeau holds a Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. in Sociology from Western University, Mount Allison University, respectively. Her teaching portfolio includes courses on quantitative methods, mental health sociology, and community-based experiential learning.
Her research interests span socioeconomic adversities’ impact on child emotional/behavioral development, life-course mental health trajectories, and intergenerational inequality reduction. She has secured grants totaling over $250,000 CAD, including the King’s Research Excellence Scholar Grant (2023) and SSHRC Insight Development Grant (2021-2023). Notable projects include investigating parental employment quality’s role in child mental health and studying food insecurity’s healthcare cost implications.
