Jim Sanderson is a Professor and Chair of the Department of English and Modern Languages at Lamar University since 1989. He has held multiple roles including Writing Director (six years) and currently serves as a Writer-in-Residence. His career at Lamar has been marked by creative writing initiatives and administrative leadership.
Notable achievements include directing the Texas Reading Circuit (a state-wide literary program), securing grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and Texas Commission on the Arts, and publishing two novels supported by Lamar's developmental leaves. He received institutional recognition as Distinguished Faculty Lecturer (2002) and University Scholar (2006).
