Jim Jipson is a Professor in the Department of Art and Design at the University of West Florida. With 40 years of teaching experience, he specializes in photography, mixed-media, and conceptually based art. He served as Chair of UWF’s Art Department and was the first Director of the Center of Fine and Performing Arts. His artistic focus includes reinterpreting natural forms through multimedia, 3D media, and projections, such as his project My Endless Quest for the Chthonic (2010), which uses a custom projector to transform everyday objects into abstract imagery.

Research Interests: Jipson’s work explores themes of chance, interrelationships between objects, and spatial dynamics. His installations and sculptures blend 2D and 3D mediums to create poetic abstractions. Notable projects include a life-size projector concept to involve human and animal interaction. His artistic philosophy emphasizes finding beauty in the ordinary.

Grants and Leadership: Jipson led UWF’s Art Department and pioneered the Center of Fine and Performing Arts. His grants include the Polaroid Artist Support Grant (1986) and fellowships from the National Museum of American Art (2001) and Southern Arts Federation (1993).
