Jillian Kinzie

Jillian Kinzie serves as Associate Director of the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) at Indiana University's School of Education, leading research initiatives on student engagement and institutional improvement. She is a senior scholar at the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA) and co-author of influential works in higher education. Her roles include editorial board memberships and advisory work with accreditors and institutions.

Dr. Kinzie earned her PhD in Higher Education from Indiana University with a minor in Women’s Studies. Prior roles include faculty positions at Indiana University, Miami University, and Case Western Reserve University. Her research focuses on data-driven educational practices, equity, and high-impact practices, supported by grants from Lumina, Strada, and NSF.

Her scholarly interests emphasize assessment, student success, and partnerships between academic and student affairs. She has advised hundreds of institutions on leveraging assessment to enhance educational quality and equity, with a focus on STEM curriculum reforms and career preparation.

Notable grants include the Lumina-funded study on High-Impact Practices (HIPs) equity and an NSF project on research-rich curricula in STEM. She has been recognized with NASPA’s Outstanding Contribution to Research (2024) and multiple POD Network honors.

Kinzie’s work bridges research and practice, translating scholarly findings into actionable strategies for institutions. She coordinates interdisciplinary efforts to improve undergraduate education through evidence-based approaches, advocating for inclusive excellence and systemic change.
