Jill Wood is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Pennsylvania State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Biobehavioral Health and Women's Studies. Her research focuses on critiquing the medicalization of women's health (menstruation, pregnancy, menopause), reproductive justice issues like coercive contraceptive use (LARCs), and birth justice frameworks. She applies critical race theory and anti-racist principles to feminist pedagogy, emphasizing trauma-informed education to create inclusive learning environments.
Wood has received the George W. Atherton Award for Excellence in Teaching (2020) and the Barash Award for Human Service (2023). She teaches courses such as WMNST 100, 452, and 509. She serves on the University’s Committee to Address Sexual and Relationship Violence (CARSV) and acts as a Title IX complainant advisor.
Her recent publications analyze menstrual concealment imperatives, trauma-informed pedagogy, and the medical management of pregnancy through intersectional and reproductive justice lenses.
