Professor Jill Urbanic is a faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Windsor’s Faculty of Engineering. Her research focuses on additive manufacturing, robotics, ergonomics, and sustainable design. She has coordinated capstone projects and advised numerous students, including those involved in innovations like 3D-printed medical devices, sustainable material handling solutions, and ergonomic studies in agriculture. She received notable awards such as the Wighton Fellowship (2013) for innovative teaching and Tech Researcher of the Year (2021).
Her work integrates advanced manufacturing techniques with real-world applications, including collaborations with local industries and responses to crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. She has led projects on residual stress analysis in additive manufacturing, robotic automation for textiles, and musculoskeletal risk mitigation in manual labor. Prof. Urbanic also co-founded CAMufacturing Solutions, emphasizing practical industry-academia partnerships.
Her teaching emphasizes hands-on laboratory experiences, such as robotic arm design, CAD/CAM applications, and material prototyping. She has organized interdisciplinary events like the WE-Spark think tank and contributed to open house initiatives to engage prospective students. Collaborations with peers like Dr. Duncan Lam highlight her cross-disciplinary creativity, blending engineering with art and storytelling.
