Jill McDonough is a Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of English at the University of Massachusetts Boston, based in Wheatley Hall. She holds an MFA from Boston University and specializes in poetry and creative writing with a focus on social justice themes. Her 13-year tenure teaching incarcerated students through Boston University’s Prison Education Program underscores her commitment to prison education.
Her research explores poetry as a vehicle for social critique, examining themes like incarceration, cultural identity, and inequality. Her published works reflect these interests through explorations of urban life, mortality, legal systems, and American societal structures.
McDonough has received significant recognition, including:
