Jill E. Thomley is a Professor of Statistics in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Appalachian State University. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Harvard University and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Decision Sciences and Engineering Systems from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Her research focuses on statistical education innovation, data science pedagogy, and the history of statistical methodologies. She actively promotes open-source tools like R and GitHub for reproducible research and transparent data analysis.
Dr. Thomley has served as course convener for STT 1810 and led the redevelopment of the STT1810 course curriculum. Her service roles include Deputy Chair of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and co-advisor for Pi Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society. She has authored/co-authored influential works including the Encyclopedia of Mathematics and Society (2011) and contributed to groundbreaking scholarship on standards-based grading in STEM education.
