Jill A Watson is an Associate Professor of Education at St. Olaf College, affiliated with the Education and Linguistic Studies faculties. She holds Minnesota teacher licensure in English as a Second Language (ESL) and French, with extensive teaching experience in middle/high schools and institutions including Augustana College, South Dakota State University, Cornell University, and the University of Minnesota. Her research focuses on Students with Limited or Interrupted Formal Education (SLIFE), refugee-background education, Indigenous education practices, and classroom oral interaction.
She serves as President of MinneTESOL and founded the MinneSLIFE group, advocating for marginalized learners. At St. Olaf since 2016, she teaches courses in English as an Additional Language, World Language Education, and educational ethics. She advises the ESL Club and Aspiring Educators Club and contributes to the Accessibility Subcommittee as a consulting member for language-related initiatives.
Dr. Watson is currently developing a manual for teachers of English learners and frequently provides professional development training. Her work emphasizes ethical educational practices, cultural responsiveness, and inclusive pedagogy for multilingual students.
