Jie Xu

Jie Xu serves as Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering within the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), where he directs the Microfluidics Laboratory focused on micro/nanoscale engineering solutions for global health, energy, and environmental challenges.

His research centers on two interconnected domains:

• Acoustofluidics: Investigating acoustic wave-fluid interactions at microscale for applications including microfluidic mixing, pumping, particle manipulation (worm/sperm/fish sorting), sensing enhancement, soundproofing, and additive manufacturing
• Microfluidic biosensors: Developing cost-effective, user-friendly biological microchips to address critical global health concerns through reliable point-of-care diagnostics
