Jiashen Li

Dr. Jiashen Li is a Lecturer in Textile Science & Engineering at the Department of Materials, University of Manchester. His research focuses on functional fibers and composites, biomaterials, and porous structures derived from electrospinning and graphene-related materials. He holds a PhD in Polymer Materials (Physics) from Tianjin University (2001) and has extensive experience in biomaterials and fiber spinning, including 13 years at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University before joining Manchester in 2015.

Research Interests:

• Porous micro/nano fibers with ultra-high surface area
• Graphene-related materials for composites and sensors
• Electrospinning techniques for biomedical and environmental applications

Collaborations involve cross-disciplinary projects with experts in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and physics. He teaches courses such as Fabric Structures & Coloration, Textile Manufacturing Techniques, and Technical & Biomedical Textiles.

Advising and grants highlight his mentorship of over 30 students, including PhD candidates focusing on topics like graphene composites, porous PLLA/TiO₂ fibers, and biomedical scaffolds. His lab group specializes in biomaterials, polymers, and textile technology, contributing to Sustainable Development Goals related to clean energy and industrial innovation.

Notable projects include developing a sustainable graphene ink for RFID sensors and porous fibrous membranes for filtration and drug delivery.
