معرفی
Jay Wang serves as Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Physics at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, where he maintains an active research program while overseeing departmental operations from his office in Science & Engineering 204B.
Dr. Wang earned his PhD in Theoretical Atomic Physics from the University of Tennessee in 1992 and completed his BS in Physics at Lanzhou University in China in 1983.
His research focuses on three interconnected areas: correlation effects in light-matter interactions using quantum perturbation methods; strong laser pulse interactions with Rydberg atoms; and computational physics modeling of atomic and electronic processes. He develops efficient computer codes for theoretical calculations and applies these methods to problems in atomic, molecular, and optical physics.
His publications demonstrate a strong commitment to computational approaches in physics education and research, with both books emphasizing practical implementation of computational methods for physical science problems.
- $231,213 awarded by Office of Naval Research for UMassD MUST III: Quantum Computing and Control in Noisy Environments
- Multiple grants totaling approximately $40,000 in recent years
Professor Wang advises students through undergraduate research courses (PHY 480), senior thesis projects (PHY 490), and graduate research (PHY 685). His research has been supported by the Office of Naval Research and other funding sources, enabling work in quantum computing, atomic physics modeling, and computational methods development.
His research group maintains active GitHub repositories (com-py/compy and com-py/intro) that support computational physics education, providing valuable open resources for students and researchers interested in applying computational techniques to physical science problems.
