Dr. Jianwen Yang is a Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Windsor, affiliated with the School of the Environment. He holds editorial roles at journals including Groundwater and Hydrogeology Journal. His research focuses on geofluids, geo-electrical methods, hydrogeology, and computational modeling of subsurface processes. He has supervised numerous graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
Dr. Yang completed his B.Sc. at Guilin University of Technology (1983), M.Sc. at Central-South University (1986), and later earned M.Sc. (1992) and Ph.D. (1997) degrees from the University of Toronto.
His research interests include hydrothermal fluid flow modeling, contaminant transport in groundwater systems, and numerical simulations of geological processes. He leads the Geohydrophysical Experimental and Modelling (GEM) Facilities, equipped with advanced computational and experimental tools such as SunBlade workstations and geo-electrical imaging systems.
Dr. Yang’s work combines field observations with computational models to address challenges in environmental geophysics, mineral deposit formation, and subsurface fluid dynamics. His lab, the Geofluids Modelling Facility, supports multi-dimensional modeling of fluid flow and mass transport.
He has advised over a dozen graduate students and hosted postdoctoral researchers focusing on topics like ore-forming fluid flow and landfill leachate transport. His research has been funded through grants from organizations like CFI/OIT.
